Overview

If you have a damaged, decayed, or unattractive tooth, a custom dental crown from Matt McGee Family and Cosmetic Dentistry can restore its strength, function, and appearance. Our skilled dentist, Dr. Matt McGee, uses the latest technology and techniques to provide high-quality, natural-looking dental crowns in Nashville that can revitalize your smile.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that fits over the entire visible portion of a tooth, covering it from the gumline up. Plus, crowns are most often made from durable dental ceramic materials that blend seamlessly with your smile.

Therefore, dental crowns in Nashville can provide both restorative and cosmetic benefits by addressing a wide range of dental issues, including:

  • Cracked, chipped, or fractured teeth
  • Severe decay that we can’t treat with a filling
  • Root canal-treated teeth
  • Worn-down or misshapen teeth
  • Replacing old, failing crowns
  • Completing a dental implant
  • Cosmetic enhancements for discolored/misshapen teeth

However, by fully encasing the visible tooth structure, a custom dental crown from Dr. McGee in Nashville can repair damage, restore bite function, provide support and reinforcement, and improve overall smile aesthetics.

What are the Benefits of Dental Crowns in Nashville?

Dental crowns offer a wide range of benefits for tooth function, health, and appearance:

  • Restores full chewing and bite function
  • Protects and strengthens damaged tooth structure
  • Ends localized tooth pain and sensitivity
  • Prevents further decay or damage from spreading
  • Maintains proper teeth spacing and alignment
  • Improves speech and chewing ability
  • Provides a lifelike, flawless restoration
  • Most crowns can last 10-15 years with proper care

However, by fully capping your tooth, the crown restores its original shape and size while preventing further oral health issues stemming from the initial damage or decay.

The Crown Placement Process

The process of getting your crown involves several steps. However, two dental visits are sometimes required to complete the placement, but often, cases can be completed in one office visit using our CEREC machine.

Moreover, with CEREC, Dr. McGee employs Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) technology to allow patients to get their crowns made and placed in the same visit. Plus, about 80 percent of our patients opt for CEREC crowns because of their convenience. Furthermore, they are the same price and have the same durability as a lab-produced crown.

Additionally, not every tooth is a candidate for CEREC (front teeth, for example), so in those instances, a two-appointment visit is necessary to prepare the tooth and place the crown.

Furthermore, we will numb the patient during the initial visit to commence the preparation procedure. However, we must remove a certain amount of the tooth structure, including the decayed portion, so that the eventual crown can be of adequate thickness for strength, durability, and aesthetics.

Lastly, for CEREC restorations, we take CAD images of the tooth, and we will send the dimensions to the milling equipment within the office for completion. Plus, we will place your crown on the very same day.

However, for non-CEREC crowns, we must take an impression of your preparation with a putty-like compound. Moreover, this impression is used to make a temporary crown, which Dr. McGee will place on your tooth with temporary cement. The impression will be sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate the dental crown. You will return in a couple of weeks. Once the crown arrives, Dr. McGee will place it with permanent cement and shape it so that your bite is correct.

You can count on Dr. McGee’s dedication to providing a flawless fit, comfortable bite alignment, and brilliant, natural-looking results.
